Strike The Light

Working with over 150 local residents, Strike the Light was envisaged as large-scale outdoor event set out to symbolically rid the area of negative things by literally burning things people wanted to see the back of.

Prior to the event, effigies of giant syringes, knives and a motorbike were built along with a 30ft bonfire structure complete with fireworks created by the acclaimed theatre company Walk the Plank. Walkabout and members of the community also worked with Creative Industries Salford to create a series of short films exploring the positive and negative sides to Little Hulton.

On Sat 8 March 2007, over 1000 people of all ages attended Peel Park to watch the performance. The evening began with a display of lanterns made by local school children and music created by local youth groups working with musician Mark Pilkington. The short films created especially for the event were projected onto the structures before they were burned.
