Ordsall on the Move
Working with a wide variety of community groups from young to old each group focused on the changes in Ordsall: their memories and their perceptions of the now, all expressed through a variety of different art forms:
- Humphrey Booth Day Centre for the elderly worked with a writer and photographer and created memories on cakes, cushions and banners using imagery from Salford History Library.
- St Clements Church parishioners worked with a photographer to collect stories from local people to be exhibited in the church.
- Friends of Ordsall Park created concrete installations.
- At Salford Lads Club, young people from the Kids Wi’ Dreams project worked with Company Fierce Dance group to create their own street dance choreography.
- Britain in Bloomers took place alongside the annual Britain in Bloom Festival in Langworthy with specially printed T Towels hung across the street
- The Barracks group worked with young people on a photography project which was exhibited in the local park.
- A highlight of Ordsall on the Move had to be the evocative film created by The Windsor Centre, a service for homeless people and for people with mental health problems.
Ordsall on the Move showcased all the above work with the aid of a rather alternative form of transportation - an old fashioned double-decker Routemaster bus! This picked people up from designated stops around the area and took them to the different events.
